Early Life

Nusrat Jahan Roohi was born on 8 January 1990 in Kolkata, West Bengal in a Bengali Muslim family to Muhammad Shah Jahan and Sushma Khatoon.

Nusrat is an Indian actress who predominantly works in Bengali cinema.

In 2019, Nusrat Jahan became actively involved in politics and was elected as a Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha MP from Basirhat constituency as a Trinamool Congress candidate. Nusrat Jahan's screen debut was in Raj Chakraborty's Shotru.

Education

She completed her schooling from Mission School, Our Lady Queen of Kolkata and then went to college at Bhawanipore College, Kolkata to graduate with a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) degree.

Political Career

On 12 March 2019, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress Party President Mamata Banerjee announced that Jahan will contest the upcoming general election of 2019 from Basirhat Lok Sabha constituency. She emerged as the winner by a margin of 350,000 votes against BJP candidate Sayantan Basu. And now Nusrat is a Lok Sabha MP.

Film Career

Jahan started her modeling career in 2010 after winning the "Fair One Miss Kolkata" beauty pageant.

She made her Tollywood debut with the 2011 film Shottru Mein Jeet. After a year's hiatus, she starred opposite Dev in her second film, Khoka 420 (2013).

The same year she appeared in Khiladi opposite Ankush Hazra. She appeared in two item songs, "Chicken Tandoori" from Action and "Desi Chhori" from Yoddha - The Warrior, both of which were hits and became chartbusters. Jahaan then appeared in Sondhe Namra Ugly alongside Rahul Bose, Rituparna Sengupta and Payal Sarkar.

In 2015, she starred opposite Ankush Hazra in the comedy film Jamai 420 with an ensemble cast including Payal Sarkar, Mimi Chakraborty, Soham Chakraborty and Hiran Chatterjee. The team along with Nusrat Dev and Sayantika Banerjee was also part of the theme song of BCL (Bengal Celebrity League) for "Midnapur Mighties".

Her next and last film of 2015 was Har Har Byomkesh, released in December 2015 with Abir Chatterjee, Sohini Sarkar and Rachel White. The film was a huge success at the box office.

In 2016, she appeared in director Rajiv Kumar Vishwas's film Power alongside Jeet and Sayantika Banerjee. In the same year, he starred in the comedy film Kelor Keerthi alongside Dev, Jisshu Sengupta, Ankush Hazra, Mimi Chakraborty, Kaushani Mukherjee and Sayantika Banerjee.

In 2020, she appeared in Asur, alongside Jeet and Abir Chatterjee and then in an action film on the hostage rescue operation SOS Kolkata as Amanda Jones along with Yash Dasgupta, Mimi Chakraborty, Anna Saha and Shantilal Mukherjee.

She was awarded the 'Best Actress Award' for her role in the 2017 Bengali film "Zulfiqar"
